Hunt for the Largest Easter Egg
On Good Friday we set off an urban adventure to find the largest Easter Egg.
It was a beautiful sunny morning with a bitterly cold wind and we stopped in the park for a play until our fingers felt as though they would drop off. Our adventurous toddler loves climbing, running and exploring. Her confidence is streaks ahead of her capabilities so Daddy was called to join her in the ‘big’ playground.
Daddy got more than he bargained for when he found himself coming down a slide made for little ones. Thankfully we were the only ones at the park at 9am on Good Friday!
Living in London near the River Thames means we’re lucky enough to walk along the beautiful and changing landscape of the city’s iconic river. The River Thames has a total length of 215 miles and tides that rise and fall by 7 metres. This morning the tide was out so we could see the river’s foreshore below us.
We headed to Canary Wharf for a play near the fountain. I tried to keep Imogen out of the fountain by explaining that the water was freezing cold and not for swimming in. She ended up with a soaking wet glove, it could have been worse. After several runs around the fountain we headed indoors to warm up and have some lunch.
On our way home we walked through Westferry Circus Gardens. Did we find the largest Easter Egg in London? This beautiful bronze sculpture is by Do Vassilakis-König.
Natural History Museum
We went to the Natural History Museum last week in South Kensington, London. Hubby and I thought it would be a fun day out for us all on Imogen’s 2nd Birthday and the museum certainly didn’t disappoint a two year old who loves animals!
We highly recommend the Museum as an educational and fun family day out in London.
Imogen had her first journey on the London Underground Tube from Tower Hill to South Kensington. As a city girl born and bred she climbed into her seat and waited to go.
Imogen loved showing Mummy and Daddy the animals in the museum. There was plenty of finger pointing as Imogen went around and highlighted the incredible animals she saw.
The Dinosaur exhibition was very exciting with several moving replicas of dinosaurs including a T.rex. After closing her eyes initially when she saw the T.rex she then warmed to it when we named it ‘Mummy Dinosaur’ and she asked to see it again!
The amazing display of large Mammals includes a Blue Whale, the largest creature ever.
Inside the Creepy Crawlies exhibition we found spiders, beetles, crabs, butterflies, scorpions and many other species. And there were some extra big specimens!
The Natural History Museum building is a work of art with stunning architecture inside and out. The building was completed in 1880 and the museum first opened in 1881. The Museum is open every day from 10am but is closed from 24 to 26 December.
Home in London with Daddy
We were barely off the plane from New Zealand before Imogen was asking to go to the park to play on the swings and slide. As soon as the sun was up and we’d eaten our porridge we went out to our local park in London.
Imogen ran to the park with such enthusiasm, her little legs moving so fast. She wanted to show Daddy how she could climb the ladder to the slide after having plenty of practice playing in parks with her grandparents in New Zealand.
Seeing Imogen and her Daddy back together after eight weeks was incredible, they’d both missed one another so much. Between cuddles and play Imogen and Daddy are constantly chatting away about the adventures she had on holiday.
After lots of fresh air, sunshine and play it was time for a banana and drink before heading to Canary Wharf for a sandwich. We were lucky to have such beautiful weather and made the most of being outdoors.
Imogen was tired out after playing and had a nap soon after lunch so hubby and I enjoyed a leisurely walk along the River Thames before going home.
