Struggling to Find the Best Baby Names?

| January 24, 2012

Pregnancy is a doddle when compared to finding the perfect name for your baby.

My husband and I spent months, weeks, days and hours brainstorming, debating and deliberating on names.

And the craziest thing of all was that I despised the names he liked and he wouldn’t (perhaps it was out of spite for me not liking his names) agree to any of the names I came up with.

The clock was ticking and I began to envisage us in hospital, with our new baby in our arms and a blank name tag, whilst we continued to try and reach a decision.

We desperately needed some guidance.

My husband was coming up with more and more bizarre names in an effort to be the one to find the perfect name for our baby.

I feared he was close to approaching wacky celebrity baby name status where the likes of Apple, Sage Moonblood, Ocean and Blue Angel exist.

I went straight to the bookshop for some advice and can heartily recommend 60,001 Best Baby Namesby Diane Stafford and the Penguin Dictionary of First Namesby David Pickering.

It’s not easy. The name you give your baby is the name he or she will be stuck with forever (that’s if they don’t change it by deed poll)!

They say that a name can influence the life of a person, their career and even their ability to interact successfully with others. And if you’re not feeling the strains of future parenthood yet, the pressure is on you to get it right!

Are You A Baby Whisperer?

| December 19, 2011

I recommend you read the insightful book The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problemsby Tracy Hogg before you have your baby and refer back to it when necessary once you’ve had your baby.

There’s so much useful information in this book that I use it when I need guidance with a particular issue, or just to check if I’m doing things right.

It focuses on sleep, feeding, the behaviour of your baby and everything in between. Even my husband has turned to this book for advice several times, now that’s saying something!

I diligently made a list of ‘how to parent’ books I wanted to read before I had my baby. But I’d forgotten, things never go according to plan!

In the month before our baby was due we decided we had to have our bathroom renovated. Time slipped through my fingers as I sourced tiles, tap fittings and a new showerhead.

No problem I thought, I’ll have plenty of time when my baby’s born and she’s sleeping peacefully in her Moses Basket whilst I relax on the sofa next to her. Ha!

In the early days my baby didn’t like to sleep too much in the hours of daylight. And when she did sleep, it was mandatory she was swaddled and held (thank you Moby Wrap for helping with this).

So in those rare moments of slumber during the day, they certainly didn’t allow me much time to hold a book!

Vitabiotics Pregnacare Conception Tablets

| December 15, 2011

Trying for a baby is an extremely exciting and nerve wracking time.

Each month is fraught with such trepidation… is this month THE month?

Will that pregnancy test come back positive?

When we were trying to conceive, I took Vitabiotics Pregnacare Conception tablets daily to ensure my health was optimum, thus maximising my chances of becoming pregnant.

These are packed with all the nutrients you need to help support a healthy conception, including the necessary Folic Acid 400µg and are suitable for vegetarians.

And when my pregnancy test came back positive, I was over the moon with happiness!

I also felt relieved I’d already given myself and my baby the best start possible.
